Historic Central School is the oldest standing school building in Lake City, built in 1882. In the 1980s, when it was no longer needed as a school, it was acquired by a group of people and organizations interested in preserving our rich Lake City heritage as a "Historic and Cultural Center for Lake City." The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
The building is open from 9:30 until 11:30, Monday through Friday and at other times by appointment. Phone 712-464-8639.
The building is managed by Central School Preservation, Inc., a non-profit organization.
